Sumario:The aim of this article is to present the two dimensions that build the discourse analysis. The first allows it to be characterized as a theoretical perspective with a less or more critical bias; the second makes it possible to use it as a methodological tool for constructing, describing and interpreting linguistic data. In order to illustrate both dimensions, an analysis is made of a news articles that show the relationship between the pro-mining groups and the press in a southern Argentine province. Attention is focused on two features of the news articles —narrative and argument— and the social representations it embodies.
