description | Departing from the notion that gear has played a central role during the late period of prehispanic cultural development in the south- Andean region, it is attempted, by means or the study or some of the garments of common use, to determine technical and design features that were shared by groups or both slopes or the Andean mountain range, in what is today Argentina y Chile. There are proposed two significant areas to carry out the analysis, on one hand, the Argentinean northwest and the Chilean big north and for other, the Argentinean centre-west and Chilean little north. Several factors were taken into account for this election, among them it is fundamental the fact that mentioned areas are those that up to now have provided the biggest quantity of well conserved textile objects. Also in both areas there have been developed high complex prehispanic societies.Being the textile materials a vehicle for social interaction by means of which ethnic ownership, social class, productive activity, gender and style are recongnised, we believe that the fabrics contain information of unsuspected importance to determine the kind of interaction sustained by prehistoric populations. |

Departing from the notion that gear has played a central role during the late period of prehispanic cultural development in the south- Andean region, it is attempted, by means or the study or some of the garments of common use, to determine technical and design features that were shared by groups or both slopes or the Andean mountain range, in what is today Argentina y Chile.
