Se estudia la historia de ponchos, balandres y chamantos a partir de fuentes notariales y judiciales de Colchagua y Rancagua, desde comienzos del siglo XVII hasta mediados del XIX. Esta fuente aporta conocimiento relevante sobrela presencia de estos tejidos en la sociedad hispanocriolla, su valoración social y económica, sus ciclos históricos y sus características cromáticas. Se demuestra el profundo arraigo de la cultura del tejido dentro de la sociedad mestiza del Valle Central de Chile, y sus lazos con la tradición tejedora del mundo indígena.
