El presente artículo expone un estudio exploratorio de la relación entre el enfoque de las capacidades de Amartya Sen y el procedimentalismo epistémico, en torno a la medición de la pobreza. El estudio presenta los rasgos generales de dicho enfoque, para luego analizarlos a la luz del procedimentalismo epistémico.Se identificaron algunas dificultades que presentan la concepción deliberativista de la democracia y el proceso de construcción de listados y consensos para el diseño de instrumentos de medición de la pobreza. Se demostró que el mayor nexo entre el enfoque de las capacidades y el procedimentalismo epistémico se encuentra en el plano teórico.
