This paper introduces findings gained through ethnographic fieldwork at film festivals in the Central American and Spanish Caribbean regions, with a focus on the ACAMPADOC International Documentary Film Festival in Panama, the only film festival in the region dedicated exclusively to the documentary film genre. The paper also briefly refers to data from on-going research that maps Central American films and filmmakers in a basic network analysis. The reported findings broadly cover what are identified as five areas of concentration in the study of film festivals, based on the understanding of festivals as nodal interfaces for film cultures (Iordanova, 2015). |

Se puede conceptualizar las actuales culturas cinematográficas de Centroamérica como cines postconflicto, post-tercermundistas (Shohat, 2004), pequeños (Hjort y Petrie, 2007) que, en ausencia de estructuras de apoyo reguladas por el estado, han dependido en gran medida de sus relaciones con festivales de cine nacionales y regionales (Ahn, 2012). El presente artículo presenta datos obtenidos a través una investigación etnográfica en festivales de cine en la región de América Central y el Caribe hispánico, con un énfasis en el Festival Internacional de Cine Documental ACAMPADOC en Panamá, el único festival de cine en la región dedicado exclusivamente al género de cine documental. El artículo también refiere brevemente a datos de un análisis de redes que se está desarrollando y en que están mapeados películas y cineastas centroamericanos.
