Sumario:The purpose of this paper is to discuss and analyze the family-school relationship through reflection on the role of homework in the context of the popular classes. The research was carried out in a public school in the outskirts of the city of Campo Grande, in Mato Grosso do Sul. The study was developed in a group of 20 families and the empirical material of the research originated from information from school documents, in the school context and questionnaires, which were operationalized in a Bourdieusian sociological analysis. The information produced and analyzed attest to objective conditions and family dynamics, availability of time and forms of capital, which reflect in the conception of homework for the family and for the student, as an awareness of the value of cultural capital and strategies in the constitution of the student habitus in students of the initial years of Elementary Education.
