A presente pesquisa buscou mostrar que existiu uma tradição intelectual, a Escola de Salamanca, que, inserida num contexto histórico de consolidação dos Estados Nacionais Modernos e de grande desenvolvimento comercial mundial, produziu um número significativo de obras voltadas para explicação das atividades comerciais e financeiras.
