Sumario: | This paper results from the collective effort by a Brazilian anthropologist and a Mozambican historian to analyze aspects of Ilha de Moçambique’s materiality. We will focus on two “objects”, one in architecture realm, the macuti, the other within the realm of clothing, the capulana, in order to present their social relevance and some of the multiple forms of use and meanings attached to them. After approaching and comparing them, we will look to a specific situation where both capulana and macuti are essential: the funeral rites. |
