O artigo discute a problemática do controle social através de algumas correntes sociológicas de pensamento: estruturalismo, funcionalismo, fenomenologia e interacionismo, relacionando tal conceito à noção de “desvio social”. Aborda a “necessidade” desses mecanismos, respectivamente, a partir da falta de coesão social; na garantia desta harmonia social; na internalização de padrões sociais; e dos comportamentos e manipulações nas relações sociais.
