Sumario:This essay does an analysis of the short story “A terceira margem do rio”, by Guimarães Rosa (2001), pointing out the mythical elements which appear in the narrative and guarantee a universal feature to a text which is initially regionalist. During the analysis, the myths of Charon and Noah are recovered, as well as the symbology assumed by the water and the boat, crucial elements in the short story.
