Sumario:This article discusses the importance of the Real Plan in the broad transformations of the brazilian banking sector from 1994 to 2007, especially with regard to changes in concentration and profitability of this segment. The complex dynamics of the brazilian banking sector from the second half of the 1990s is demonstrated, as well as the concentration and profitability evolution due to the loss of inflationary revenue, the adoption of restrictive economic measures and liberalization and the proposed restructuring by the monetary authorities in the face of the difficulties and the dynamism of the banks after the implementation of the Real Plan. Under the aegis of this monetary stabilization plan, the banking sector has become more concentrated and highly profitable.
