Este artigo propõe a leitura de uma crônica literária de Brito Broca, analisando o modo como o jornalista representou D. Pedro II, Georges Sand e Alphonse Karr em seu texto. Ao desprezar, ainda que de forma parcial, os contextos francês e brasileiro em que ocorreu a viagem do imperador à Europa, Broca dá a impressão de que tanto Sand quanto Karr negaram-se a se encontrar com D. Pedro por motivo fútil ou por capricho.
