This paper is a study about Baudelaire’s relationship with the concept of the aesthetic of modernity and its paradoxes that are always present in his poetic as well as in his critical work. Along the presentation, some poems from Les Fleurs du Mal will be focused.

Sabe-se que a Modernidade pode ser considerada em suas várias faces: social, política, cultural, estética; linhas que se cruzam algumas vezes e, em outras, se negam, sintoma de seus vários paradoxos Em seu âmbito poético, embora certos autores dos romantismos alemão e francês já a tivessem antecipado em alguns aspectos, a modernité teve como seu maior representante o poeta conhecido como “pai da modernidade”: Charles Baudelaire. O presente artigo trata da relação do autor com o conceito de modernidade estética e seus paradoxos, presentes em toda a sua poética, bem como em sua obra crítica.
