O presente texto constrói-se sob a forma de um devaneio poético para colocar lado a lado duas facetas do escritor francês Victor Hugo, no caso, sua atuação política na sociedade de sua época e os posicionamentos estéticos que assumiu como poeta e escritor. Visando estabelecer uma ponte entre ambas, este ensaio permite que se veja, no fim, a figura de uma personagem quase mítica, de estatura titânica, capaz de resumir em sua epopéia pessoal tanto o momento histórico em que viveu, quanto a excepcional contribuição literária que legou à posteridade.
