Sumario: | This article aims at discussing the variety of meanings that the term individualism may assume in the hypermodern society. The article addresses it by the creation of a typology of individuals: “less individual”, “very much” and “narcissistic-altruistic”. The last one best fi ts to describe our society: a paradoxical society in where contradictory meanings live side-by-side. In fact, contradictions and paradoxes are the reason for optimism: individuals can be at the same time extremely in love for themselves and sensitive to others. |
