Sumario: | Based on Antonio Candido’s studies of Brazilian and French fi n-de-siècle lyrical poetry, this article aims to investigate the way the author articulates Symbolism with Modernism. Such axis of Candido’s aesthetic and critical-theoretical thoughts (with the corresponding analytical practice of poetic texts) has not been so valued as the ‘neoclassical/romantic’ and the ‘modernist’ axes that inform his works. Nonetheless, it is of great importance since it is an opportune ‘intermediate axis’ for a new appreciation of Symbolism in Brazil. |
