This contradiction fosters irregular immigration of considerable amounts of unemployed people in their country of origin, attracted by the existence of a labor market for immigrants in the developed countries. In the first part, the article reviews the profile of the Latin immigrants established in the United States. Then, it analyses the insertion of Latin Americans in the labor market of New York, the most important global city of the world and its hourglass economy. Later on, the article describes the ways in which Latinos have progressively occupied the most precarious, flexible and immigrants-destined labors, in a degenerated and segmented by genre and legal condition labor market. Brazilians are also part of this market, but their visibility is not yet present in the researches and, much less, as part of the other groups of Latin-American immigrants. |

El artículo ubica el fenómeno de la migración latinoamericana en dirección a Estados Unidos a partir de las últimas décadas del siglo xx, en el marco del capitalismo neoliberal. Apunta dos ejes centrales de esta nueva ola de migración: la desfronterización para la circulación de mercancías e intercambio entre países y, las restricciones para la circulación de la fuerza de trabajo. Esta contradicción fomenta la migración irregular de contingentes humanos carentes de empleo en sus países atraída por la existencia de un mercado de trabajo destinado a los migrantes, en los países desarrollados. En la primera parte, se traza el perfil de la migración latina, asentada en el territorio norteamericano. A seguir, analiza la inserción de los latinoamericanos en el mercado de trabajo de Nueva York, la principal ciudad global del planeta y su hourglass economy. Se describe cómo los latinos progresivamente han ocupado los empleos precarios, flexibles y racializados destinados a los migrantes, en un mercado de trabajo degradado, segmentado étnica, por género y por su situación legal en el país (como irregulares en su mayoría).
