Neste artigo busca-se fazer uma digressão histórica sobre o processo de trabalho, desde a cooperação simples até o chamado “modelo japonês” ou “toyotismo”. Busca-secompreender alguns dos significados das mudanças no processo de trabalho, tanto para o trabalho em si, como para a dinâmica das relações sociais na sociedade capitalista.Analisando o trabalho sob a perspectiva do modo de produção social pretende-se uma crítica quanto à busca por “tipos puros” ou uniformes de processo de trabalho além da crítica àstentativas de consenso entre as classes sociais. Conclui-se que o toyotismo é uma entre várias estratégias do capital para reproduzir sua dominação e exploração da força de trabalho.
