Primarily, we shall investigate and understand this work, identifying framework elements from the satirical gender and from the juvenalian aesthetics. Later, we may observe questions related to the transmission of the text from Juvenal, chiefly devoting ourselves to the purges in some modern editions from his satires. Regarding the notion of social control, we based ourselves on the thoughts of Émile Durkheim and Michel Foucault, by using newer approaches over the subject, suggested by Marcos César Alvarez (2004) in his article “Controle social: notas em torno de uma noção polêmica”. |

Este artigo pretende apontar, na transmissão da literatura latina, aspectos da censura bibliográfica, entendida minimamente como conjunto de procedimentos mecânicos e intelectuais na edição de livros, para orientação da leitura e controle social. Como corpus literário de nossas considerações, selecionamos a sátira IX, por ser um dos poemas de Juvenal mais censurados na tradição textual. Num primeiro momento, interpretaremos e analisaremos essa obra, identificando elementos estruturadores do gênero satírico e da estética juvenaliana. Posteriormente, observaremos questões relacionadas à transmissão do texto de Juvenal, dedicando-nos especificamente aos expurgos em algumas edições modernas das suas sátiras.
