A revista literária portuguesa A Águia foi fundada em 1910 pelo jornalista Álvaro Pinto, com o objetivo de promover o renascimento de uma cultura percebida como decadente pelo círculo de intelectuais reunidos em torno da publicação. De 1911 a 1922, sob a influência de Teixeira de Pascoaes, A Águia tornou-se o principal meio de divulgação do “Saudosismo”, o movimento nacionalista criado por aquele escritor. Embora diversos movimentos vanguardistas tivessem lugar em Portugal nessa época, A Águia não participou de nenhum deles; o objetivo deste artigo é investigar as razões de isso haver ocorrido, e em que sentido é possível qualificar A Águia como uma publicação “contravanguardista”.
