O presente artigo descreve a situação contraditória do que se convencionou chamar de Teoria. Através de uma comparação com sua parente mais próxima, a teoria literária, o texto procura caracterizar a Teoria levando em consideração seus métodos, objetos, sujeitos e locais de enunciação. Em todos eles, conclui-se, há um potencial de liberdade em mistura com uma rendição ao mercado.
