Sumario:This paper attempts to discuss, tentatively theoretical problems inherent to empirical research concerning the family. Initially, there is the theoretical relation between social classes and family. The absence of immediate empirical reference to the concept of social class and the determination of the family as a structure of reproduction of social agents are discussed. The inclusion of economic and ideological elements related to the occupational structure of labor-force in the social reproduction by the family is suggested. The study of the methodological and theoretical reasons as well as the results of empirical studies lead to the conclusion that familial situations determined by way of empirical research cannot be explained simply by their direct remission to class structure.
