Este artigo lida com o conceito de abdução presente na obra teórico-crítica de Umberto Eco. O objetivo principal consiste em mostrar como, ao abordar as questões relativas à interpretação da obra de arte, Umberto Eco desvalorizou o aspecto estético da fruição artística em favor de uma concepção cognitivista, calcada numa semiótica representacionalista. Além disso, pretende evidenciar o parentesco da noção de abdução com o conceito de juízo teleológico de Kant.
