| description | In this article, we intend to analyze discursively, based upon French-school Discourse Analysis theoretical-methodological apparatus, notoriously represented by Michel Pêcheux and Michel Foucault, an archive of soccer chronicles published in Folha de S. Paulo during 1998 World Cup, in France. Our goal is to show how media, in this case, the writing press, works as a power in the regulation of Brazilian soccer identity and Brazilian society identity as well, since it is through soccer, among other cultural elements, this society is recognized. We use the concepts of power, subjectivity, archive and happening – all of them discussed by Foucault – and also the concept of thematic stretch, developed by Guilhaumou & Maldidier, through which we will verify, in the analyzed chronicles, how the expression “futebol brasileiro” (“Brazilian soccer”) was fulfilled in order to build up a subjectivity to the Brazilian soccer style.

Neste trabalho, propomos uma análise discursiva, com base no aparato teórico e metodológico da Análise do Discurso de linha francesa, representada notadamente por Michel Pêcheux e Michel Foucault, de um arquivo de crônicas futebolísticas publicadas na Folha de S. Paulo durante a Copa do Mundo de 1998, na França. Nosso objetivo é mostrar a mídia, no caso a impressa escrita, funcionando como um poder na regulação das identidades do futebol brasileiro e também da sociedade brasileira, uma vez que pelo futebol, entre outros elementos culturais, nossa sociedade se reconhece. Lançaremos mão dos conceitos de poder, subjetividade, arquivo e acontecimento – todos discutidos por Foucault – e também do conceito de trajeto temático, pensado por Guilhaumou & Maldidier, a partir do qual verificaremos, nas crônicas analisadas, como a expressão "futebol brasileiro" foi preenchida de modo a atribuir uma subjetividade, uma maneira de ser, ao jeito brasileiro de jogar futebol.
