Este ensaio analisa a canção de Chico Buarque (letra) e Tom Jobim (melodia), observando o trabalho do poeta e do músico na criação de uma rede de compatibilidades entre palavra e música. A letra da canção apresenta-se como um texto passional, paradoxalmente entretecido de argumentos que Perelman denomina quasi-lógicos; no texto melódico o gênero da valsa, a forma do rondó e a circularidade harmônica são alguns dos elementos que apresentam ressonâncias com a letra composta por Chico Buarque.
