A partir de los aportes de la semiótica del discurso se analiza en el presente texto la primera etapa del rito de entierro que desarrolla un grupo de jóvenes de la periferia de Bucaramanga con ocasión del asesinato de uno de sus integrantes. Esta etapa se caracteriza por el primer encuentro del fallecido, en el momento en que se encuentra en el ataúd, y sus compañeros, en la entrada del cementerio. Para este análisis se toman como base los conceptos relacionados con la sensorialidad y la percepción como condiciones del sentido que emerge del ritual. Palabras clave: Rito. Presencia.
