Sumario:On a greimasian semiotics perspective it intends to study the Brazilian best-seller reader and also the evolution of the esoteric narratives in that country. To do so, a list of yearly fiction best-sellers in Brazil is being organized, in between the years 1975 to 2006, based on the ranking of books of a national coverage magazine, “Veja”, which made it possible to formulate hypothesis on the modern best-seller reader’s expectations and, most important, the gradual changing from the esoteric books to self-help books literature in the 90’s. Keywords: Reader. Reading. Best-seller. Greimasian semiotics. Esoteric book. Self-help book.
