Sumario:The article promotes a reflection about changes in the spirit of capitalism and the phenomenon of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), based on the Comprehensive Sociology and the French Pragmatic Sociology. It points out that CSR was boosted by new capitalistic beliefs which are opposite to economic rationality. It clarifies meanings given by Brazilian companies from the state of São Paulo to the role of companies and to CSR. Among those meanings, the unpredictable aspect of legality and the appeal to connections under CSR reveal that it, at the same time, stimulates rationality and reinforces other capitalistic values in the country.
