Sumario:The article adresses Mario Pedrosa’s criticism to modernity, in three different moments of his intellectual trajectory: 1) in the beginning of the 1950’s, when the critic draws attention towards the formation of an aesthetics sensibility, inside a society dominated by technique and racionality; 2) at the end of the 1950’s, when he expresses his fears towards mass culture and time acceleration; and 3) when he takes position against the progressive developmentism. It argues that the criticism to modernity in Pedrosa, approches the debate culture versus civilization, that distinguishes the german Kulturkritik tradition.
