Este trabalho possui como objetivo refletir acerca da relação entre a Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos e o Estatuto da Metrópole, compreendendo as implicações e os desafios previstos nessas normas para as regiões metropolitanas no Brasil. O compartilhamento de soluções voltadas à preservação ambiental requer a pactuação entre diferentes atores políticos e sociais, o que, por vezes, cria obstáculos à existência de uma política efetiva. Nesse sentido, foi realizado um estudo de caso na Região Metropolitana de Natal (RMN), investigando-se, especificamente, a gestão compartilhada dos resíduos sólidos a partir da lei 12.305/2010.
