O retorno em campo e a agudização do racismo são constatados e analisados a partir daperspectiva crítica aos fundamentos sociais desse fenômeno, em sua base quadrangularde atuação: opressão de classe, opressão de raça, opressão de nação, opressão de sexo.Discute-se por que a categoria raça é ainda hoje plena de significado e tem importância, sejapara o entendimento das raízes, das componentes ideológicas e das práticas do racismo, sejapara o seu enfrentamento pelas lutas antirracistas. Problematiza-se a oposição esquemáticaentre o velho e o novo racismo, bem como o nexo entre racismo e nacionalismo.
