Sumario:This article analyzes the character of the political crises that occurred in the Torres governmentand the role played by the Popular Assembly in the struggle for socialism in 1970-1971in Bolivia. First, we examine the hypotheses on this issue that emerged from the principletheoretical debate between Zavalet and Lora. Then, we propose an alternative analysis, concluding that the crises of that particular conjuncture were due to the concentration of deeppolitical crises driven, on the one hand, by the crises of nationalism and populism and, on the other, by the political crises unleashed by the radicalization of the labor movement, whichprovoked a revolutionary situation.
