| description | This dissertation is focused on a fieldwork carried out in a parish of Peniche, Portugal, based on a project designated 'Participatory Inventory of Cultural Heritage of Atouguia da Baleia’, associated with the implementation of a museum – the Interpretive Centre of Atouguia da Baleia. It has as objective the inventory of cultural heritage in the different localities of this region, the strengthening of the relation museum-population and the recognition by the community of their assets, concerning the relationship between heritage and development. Developing an action research project, it was implemented a set of participatory museological strategies, in an interdisciplinary perspective, such as tertulias, participatory mapping, transect walks and ethnographic interviews. This project confirmed to be possible, applying the principles of Sociomuseology, the survey, identification and dissemination, as well as recognition and appreciation by the community of its heritage, tangible and intangible. Participation is central in the project. The museum is acknowledged as serving the community and its development, contributing to a better management of local heritage.

Keywords: Participatory inventory, Sociomuseology, Cultural heritage, Collective memory, Community development and participation A presente dissertação tem como enfoque o trabalho de campo desenvolvido numa freguesia do concelho de Peniche, Portugal, tendo como base um projeto designado ‘Inventário Participativo do Património Cultural de Atouguia da Baleia’ (IP), associado a um polo museológico então em fase de implementação – o Centro Interpretativo de Atouguia da Baleia. O IP tem como objetivos o levantamento dos ativos patrimoniais das diferentes localidades dessa região, o fortalecimento das relações museu-população e o reconhecimento por parte da comunidade dos seus patrimónios, considerando a articulação entre património e desenvolvimento. Num processo de investigação-ação, aplicou-se um conjunto de estratégias museológicas participativas, numa perspetiva interdisciplinar, entre as quais: tertúlias com a população, mapeamento participativo, caminhadas de reconhecimento e entrevistas semidirigidas. Confirmou-se ser possível, pela aplicação dos princípios da Sociomuseologia, o levantamento, identificação e divulgação bem como o reconhecimento e valorização, por parte da comunidade, dos seus patrimónios, materiais e imateriais, sendo a participação uma questão central no desenvolvimento do projeto. Encara-se o museu como uma instituição ao serviço da comunidade e do seu desenvolvimento, tendo o IP contribuído para uma melhor gestão do património local.
