Leaving your posture often elitist, worrying to reach an audience that does not share its conceptual codes trying to understand to what extent are we ready to allow a real and profound change. From the analysis of the literature produced on the theme, we seek to track the evolution over time, specially in Brazil, of the cultural policies developed and implemented throughout last century in order to prepare and make available cultural inclusion programs.

Key-words: Social Inclusion, Cultural Inclusion, Cultural Policies and Museums Este artigo se propõe a uma reflexão sobre o papel dos museus e as mudanças que estes ao longo do século XX perceberam serem necessárias para se adequarem às novas exigências de uma sociedade em transformação permanente que está cada vez mais consciente de seu papel e da importância de sua participação na vida cultural. Sair de sua postura muitas vezes elitista, preocupando-se em atingir a um público que não compartilha dos seus códigos conceituais buscando compreender até que ponto estão realmente prontos para se permitirem uma mudança verdadeira e profunda. A partir da análise de bibliografia produzida sobre o tema proposto, acompanhar a evolução de seu percurso, principalmente no Brasil, além das políticas públicas culturais que foram implantadas e desenvolvidas no decorrer do último século com a finalidade de instrumentalizar os programas de Inclusão Cultural.
