El objetivo de la investigación es analizar el rol que tienen las variables políticas en la configuración del Estado de bienestar. Los casos de estudio seleccionados son ejemplos de la tipología política propuesta: Uruguay (Estado de bienestar alto), México (Estado de bienestar medio) y Guatemala (Estado de bienestar bajo). En la investigación se afirma que es importante plantear una tipología de los Estados de bienestar que tenga la capacidad de ser explicativa y de resaltar sus configuraciones estructurales, y no solo describir sus resultados coyunturales.
