O objetivo deste artigo é destacar a difusão das técnicas de sensoriamento remoto e SIG e sua aplicação na geografia. O INPE (Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais) vem participando do desenvolvimento de sistemas sensores e satélites, além de softwares que combinam processamento de imagens e SIG. Considerando isto, o enfoque desta apresentação reduz-se às atividades recentes desenvolvidas nesta instituição.
