Desde os anos 70 e 80 um conjunto de grandes grupos (em sua maioria estrangeiros) com atuação no setor de grãos (soja e milho) se instala no Triângulo Mineiro/Alto Paranaíba, criando, com o apoio de políticas estatais, as condições de modernização e de especialização territorial produtiva, tornando a região um dos principais espaços do agronegócio moderno em Minas Gerais.
