A cidade de Castanhal, nordeste do Pará, possui papéis de grande complexidade na rede urbana regional, pois se situa na intermediação entre a realidade metropolitana e a centralidade de cidade média exercida no nordeste paraense. Diante disso, esse trabalho busca refletir sobre a seguinte questão: Quais os papéis desempenhados pela cidade de Castanhal na região nordeste do Estado do Pará diante do processo de dispersão metropolitana de Belém?
