Globalization, new regions for agricultural productions and social unevenness This paper tries to explain one of the dimensions of the relationship between globalization and agriculture, through the analysis of the social processes arising from the new ties between production and the circulation of fresh food in the international market. The case study is a fruit-growing region in the valley of the São Francisco River, in the northeast of Brazil. In this sense, it tries to explain how the transformations on the consumption and on the control of the market conditions interfere in the agricultural production structures of the specific regions, having impacts on the ways of access to the means of production and the work control, reproducing new patterns of social unevenness.
