The results indicate that the mining logic of the implantation, in the Vale do rio Doce, of the road network accelerated the occupation process, with population growth and urbanization, highlighting the city of Governador Valadares, which became the junction of the railroad network. |

O objetivo desse trabalho é analisar a passagem da fase ferroviária para a rodoviária no Vale do Rio Doce – MG, no século XX, para compreender o processo de formação histórica do território. O recorte temporal se justifica por causa da convergência com o período de forte atuação do Estado no processo de modernização e industrialização. A metodologia de pesquisa apoia-se primordialmente em fontes históricas, tais como jornais da época, a revista Cultura Política e documentos do Arquivo Público Mineiro, além da bibliografia especializada.
