O presente artigo tem como proposta inicial atualizar discussões sobre as relações entre natureza e sociedade, trazendo pontos como a composição de uma rede de saberes sobre o ser humano e a natureza em diferentes tempos, as inúmeras tentativas de controle sobre a natureza, das estratégias científicas de domínio do natural e do território e das técnicas de mapeamento. O foco de análise serão as políticas de mapeamento do território, tendo em vista os instrumentos aptos a dar legibilidade ao espaço, no intento de apropriação e propriedade captadas para renovar o projeto de Estado e de controle.
