O artigo pretende revisitar parte da história do movimento que melhor personificou a luta por terra e reforma agrária no Brasil no momento anterior ao golpe militar de 1964, as Ligas Camponesas. Pretende-se explorar, a partir do confronto de diferentes versões de militantes e lideranças do movimento, as razões pelas quais ele se modificou, a partir de 1961, sua forma de atuação, contemplando inclusive a luta armada como alternativa de mobilização.
