In the classic conceptions of authors like Marx, Lenin and Kautsky, this debate was tied – to a certain extent – to the theme of the Socialist Revolution in European countries. In the Brazilian context, we have diversity around the pecebista, cepalino currents, the economic conservatism and the progressive Catholic Church, which Martins was sympathetic to. In Martins’ view, the Agrarian Question should be conceived from the emancipation of rural workers as of the expansion of capitalism in the countryside and radical land reform was never the immediate solution to the problems of the countryside. According to him, the conquest of the “land of work”, also the theme of the progressive Catholic Church in the 1980s, was more promising than the Marxist intervention proposed by the Communist Party. |

Este artículo pretende dilucidar parte de la producción teórica del sociólogo José de Souza Martins, a partir de la discusión en torno al tema de la Cuestión Agraria en el Pensamiento Social Brasileño. En las concepciones clásicas de autores como Marx, Lenin y Kautsky, este debate, en cierta medida, estaba vinculado al tema de la Revolución Socialista en los países europeos. En el contexto brasileño, tenemos una diversidad en torno a las corrientes pecebista, de la CEPAL, del conservadurismo económico y de la progresista Iglesia católica, a la que Martins simpatizaba. A juicio de Martins, la Cuestión Agraria debería concebirse a partir de la emancipación de los trabajadores rurales frente a la expansión del capitalismo en el campo, y la reforma agraria radical nunca fue la solución inmediata a los problemas del campo. Para él, la conquista de la "tierra del trabajo", que también fue el tema de la Iglesia católica progresista en la década de 1980, fue más prometedora que la intervención marxista propuesta por el Partido Comunista. Este artigo tem por intento elucidar parte da produção teórica do sociólogo José de Souza Martins, em virtude da discussão em torno do tema da Questão Agrária no Pensamento Social Brasileiro. Nas concepções clássicas de autores como Marx, Lenin e Kautsky, este debate, em certa medida, esteve atrelado ao tema da Revolução Socialista em países europeus. No contexto brasileiro, temos uma diversidade em torno das correntes pecebista, cepalina, do conservadorismo econômico e da Igreja Católica progressista, à qual Martins se mostrou simpatizante. Na visão de Martins, a Questão Agrária deveria ser concebida a partir da emancipação dos trabalhadores rurais diante da expansão do capitalismo no campo e a reforma agrária radical nunca foi a solução imediata para os problemas do campo.
