| description | In recent decades, the mechanization of the harvest in the Brazilian sugar cane fields has been intensified. This mechanization of the sugar cane production processes and, more specifically, the harvesting process has been adopted in the state of Alagoas, which has always been one of the main producers in the country. The article aims to investigate the mechanization of the sugar cane harvest in Alagoas from 2008 to 2017, as well as to identify what are the motivations and impediments for adopting such technology. In order to perform the current research study, interviews with sector specialists, field observation and a survey with information of the state and national databases for the development of the research study were used. The results highlight that the harvesting mechanization has not been the same throughout the main producing areas of the country. Furthermore, it highlights that the motivations for mechanization are: the productivity restructuring of the sector, the cost with manual labor, the labor conflicts, the lack of workforce renewal and the adaptation to standards of productive sustainability. As impediments, the following factors are stated: the reality of Alagoas in the labor market, the crisis in the sector and the topography of the area. Lastly, it is expected to contribute in the discussions of the sugar cane scenario in Alagoas, bearing in mind the representativeness of this economic activity to the state and to the North-Northeast region. |

La mecanización de la zafra en los campos de caña de azúcar brasileños se ha intensificado en las últimas décadas. El estado de Alagoas, que tradicionalmente siempre ha sido uno de los principales productores del país, ha adoptado la mecanización de los procesos productivos de la caña de azúcar y, más específicamente, el proceso de recolección. El artículo tiene como objetivo investigar la mecanización de la zafra de la caña de azúcar en Alagoas de 2008 a 2017, así como identificar cuáles son las motivaciones e impedimentos encontrados para la adopción de dicha tecnología. Para la realización de la investigación se realizaron entrevistas con especialistas del sector, observación de campo y levantamiento de información en bases de datos estatales y nacionales. Los resultados destacan que la mecanización de la cosecha no se ha dado en la misma línea que las principales regiones productoras del país. Además, se destaca que las motivaciones para la mecanización son: reestructuración productiva en el sector, costos con mano de obra, conflictos laborales, falta de renovación de la fuerza laboral y adecuación a estándares de sostenibilidad productiva. Como impedimentos se presentan los siguientes factores: realidad del mercado laboral en Alagoas, crisis del sector y topografía de la región. Finalmente, se espera contribuir a la discusión sobre el escenario de la caña de azúcar en Alagoas, considerando la representatividad de esta actividad económica para el estado y para la región Norte-Nordeste. A mecanização da colheita nos canaviais brasileiros tem se intensificado nas últimas décadas. O estado de Alagoas, que tradicionalmente sempre foi um dos principais produtores do país, tem adotado a mecanização dos processos de produção canavieira e, mais especificamente, o processo de colheita. O artigo tem o objetivo de investigar a mecanização da colheita de cana-de-açúcar em Alagoas no período de 2008 a 2017, como também, identificar quais são as motivações e impeditivos encontrados para a adoção de tal tecnologia. Para a realização da pesquisa foram realizadas entrevistas com especialistas do setor, observação de campo e levantamento de informações em bases de dados estaduais e nacionais. Os resultados destacam que a mecanização da colheita não tem ocorrido nos mesmos moldes das principais regiões produtoras do país. Além disso, destaca-se que as motivações da mecanização são: reestruturação produtiva ocorrida no setor, custos com o trabalho manual, conflitos trabalhistas, falta de renovação da força de trabalho e adequação a padrões de sustentabilidade produtiva. Já como impeditivos são apresentados os seguintes fatores: realidade do mercado de trabalho alagoano, crise do setor e topografia da região.
