It stands out as a novelty that universities must have an institutional system of distance education which must be evaluated and accredited to be recognized and the distance careers that are presented for recognition must be in accordance with it. Finally, it is considered that without a doubt the new regulation opens new horizons with the incorporation of the evaluation of the institutional conditions that make good practices possible, although there are still challenges to face.

El artículo sintetiza el rol que le cupo a la Red Universitaria de Educación a distancia en la preparación del proyecto de ley del Ministerio de Educación de Argentina Res.2641-E/2017. Se enuncian los principales debates que se dieron en torno a temas claves a la educación a distancia, presentándose los aspectos centrales de la nueva normativa. Se destaca   como novedad que las universidades deben tener un sistema institucional de educación a distancia el cual, deberá ser evaluado y acreditado para ser reconocido y  las carreras a distancia que se presenten para su reconocimiento, deberán  ser acordes  al mismo.
