El trabajo propone una lectura de la obra novelística de Alberto Vanasco. Para ello, se centra en la tensión entre los procedimientos vanguardistas y las demandas realistas de la forma novelesca. Esta tensión posee un componente histórico: la pertenencia de su autor a una generación polarizada entre el compromiso político de izquierda y la necesidad de experimentación. Las novelas de Vanasco vuelven fecunda la contradicción entre realismo y surrealismo, pero también entre el magisterio de Borges y la novela como forma.
