With which it could be said that, to a large extent, sociocultural democracy is above all a project that has been becoming a reality, making progress in the debate of the concept of citizenship concomitant to the problems derived from cultural identities and differences, in multicultural contexts. This trend raises a horizon of possibilities for the concept of cultural citizenship that enhances the more global democratic construction of society. |

A nivel conceptual, la categoría ciudadanía cultural, referida a las identidades colectivas en tanto derecho a la diferencia, la identidad y el autogobierno de pueblos indígenas; cobra cada vez más fuerza y terrenalidad, gracias al movimiento indígena y en cierta medida, desde otro angulo, al debate entre liberales y multiculturalistas, que han abierto una visión democrática de las sociedades, más plural y de justicia. El reconocimiento internacional de los derechos culturales, y las reformas legislativas en cada nación, muestran la construcción de esta dimensión ciudadana, a partir de los movimientos sociales -entre ellos indígenas-, que están reivindicando los derechos políticos, como derechos culturales y derechos colectivos. Con lo cual se pude decir que, en buena medida la democracia sociocultural es sobre todo un proyecto que se viene haciendo realidad, logrando avances en el debate del concepto de ciudadanía concomitante a los problemas derivados de las identidades y diferencias culturales, en contextos multiculturales.
