description This paper presents an ethnographic analysis of the processes of memory in the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA) and revises the native opposition between mysticism and politicization evoked by a sector of the staff to indicate their perception of change in the traditional direction of the institution during the time of “camporismo”. As a result of the analysis of two texts which inspired new theoretical approaches to the subject of study, I investigate the meanings attributed to mysticism in order to reinterpret the effects of the irruption of politics in the CNEA and show how the impact of politicization not only altered the institutional dynamics but also produced a change in the images of the “nuclear community”.
