Los cambios de paradigma han permitido la evolución del concepto de estrategia, hasta el punto de ser considerada como pilar fundamental para competir en los mercados, además de ser elemento fundamental del éxito en la gestión empresarial (De Ríos, 2018); un claro ejemplo de la evolución del concepto de estrategia lo constituyen los aportes de Michael Porter. Porter, quien sin duda alguna es uno de los grandes referentes de la administración moderna, concibe en sus inicios que el único fin de las organizaciones es la maximización de utilidades, como única fuente de crecimiento y desarrollo, y esto es conocido como el pensamiento convencional o clásico. Posteriormente, Porter revalúa su postura y comprende que la sociedad y las entidades gubernamentales y no gubernamentales desempeñan un rol relevante para la consecución del crecimiento sostenible de las organizaciones. El presente artículo de revisión aborda los aportes del economista Michael Porter al pensamiento administrativo moderno.
